Overview
Founded in 2012, FracTracker Alliance is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that maps, analyzes, and communicates the risks of oil, gas, and petrochemical development to advance just energy alternatives that protect public health, natural resources, and the climate. The Communications Specialist translates FracTracker’s extensive body of work into compelling digital content and implements communications strategies to reach key audiences. Candidates may negotiate a full-time or part-time position. The position includes benefits regardless (see below for information on the benefits package). LOCATION: This position is remote with some travel required. Candidates based in Western Pennsylvania preferred
STATUS: Full time (37.5 hours per week) – Exempt; OR Part time (25 hours per week) – Exempt
STARTING SALARY RANGE: Full time: $50,000 – $55,000; Part time: $25,000 – 30,000 (based on experience)

JOB DESCRIPTION
Communications Specialist, FracTracker Alliance
DUTIES:
- Manage implementation of the organization’s communications and digital content strategy. Regularly propose, integrate, and evaluate communications activities
- Organize FracTracker’s content calendar according to strategic goals and current events
- Produce content for all digital media — videos, websites, advertising campaigns, mass emails, social media, and more
- Oversee the FracTracker website: Write/edit articles on key issues and findings related to oil and gas development concerns and coordinate maintenance of other content areas (photos, resources, projects, etc.), Work with User Experience (UX) professionals to regularly update the website
- Develop surveys to obtain user feedback on FracTracker digital platforms
- Develop standards for FracTracker content, including style and branding guides, communications templates, infographics, etc. Ensure brand and messaging consistency across all content
- Manage FracTracker’s photo and video repository
- Proactively engage news media on oil and gas issues and FracTracker’s work through interviews, calls, meetings, alerts, and other techniques. Serve as initial contact for major media inquiries
- Monitor media trends and apply insights to FracTracker content
- Disseminate FracTracker content via listservs, social media, and targeted outreach
- In collaboration with the Program Manager, create and disseminate the organization’s annual report each spring
- Document FracTracker events such as field days, award ceremonies, speaking events, etc., as requested
- Work with Manager of Community Outreach & Support to maintain and update FracTracker exhibits, publications, and marketing materials
- Periodically update online and printed training tools for utilization of the website, web maps, mobile/web app
- Other related communications duties, as assigned
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Exceptional writing and interpersonal skills
- Highly organized; proactive problem solving; attentive to detail
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Web design; WordPress; Experience using web design codes such as HTML/CSS/Java/Python
- Media relations
- User Experience (UX)
- Monitoring web analytics to improve web performance
- Graphic design and data visualization
- Proficiency in Google Drive and online collaboration
- Commitment to promoting environmental justice; Experience living and working in environmental justice communities is a plus
- Knowledge of environmental, health, and climate concerns related to fossil fuel development
- Passion for the mission of FracTracker
MINIMUM EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, digital media, social science, or other relevant field
- Three or more years of experience working in a relevant field
- Additional academic studies (e.g. graduate coursework or research) can substitute for work experience
- Ability and willingness to travel (~10% of time)
- Valid U.S. driver’s license
