About This Map

Name: Directional wells (12-2-2013)
Source: BC Oil and Gas Commission
Date: 12-2-2013
Notes: This layer contains data from “Oil and Gas Well Surface Locations” dataset (AWSH_BC.shp). Only the wells indicated as directional are included here. Due to the large number of wells, this layer is replaced by a generalized layer (see below) until users zoom in past 1:750,000.

Name: Pipeline Rights-of-Way
Source: BC Oil and Gas Commission
Date: Downloaded 12-2-2013
Notes: Pipeline rights-of-way in British Columbia from October, 2004 through December 2, 2013. Due to the large number of line segments, this layer only becomes visible as users zoom in past 1:750,000.

Name: Associated Facilities
Source: BC Oil and Gas Commission
Date: Downloaded 12-2-2013
Notes: Facilities associated with oil and gas extraction and midstream activities. According to a text file associated with the download, the data are considered accurate to the nearest quarter unit or quarter section of the legal place description, of which the centoids have been mapped. For a list of codes used for these facilities, download this Word document.

Name: Associated Facilities (generalized)
Source: FracTracker Alliance, based on data from BC Oil and Gas Commission
Date: 12-6-2013
Notes: This layer was created by forming a two-kilometer buffer around oil and gas facilities in British Columbia, for the purpose of increasing map performance and accuracy at provincial scales. As users zoom in past 1:750,000, this layer is replaced with the data layer (see above).
