About Shannon Smith
Shannon translates FracTracker’s extensive work and research into content that speaks to various audiences such as partner organizations, communities concerned with fracking, policy makers, researchers, and financial supporters.
Prior to joining FracTracker, Shannon spent five years working as a communications, marketing, and development adviser for various environmental public health nonprofits in Haiti. Most of her time there was spent with SOIL, an organization that offers ecological fecal waste management services. Her Reed College thesis, published in 2014, focused on environmental inequality in Haiti.
Shannon has a strong background in climate justice activism. While living in the Pacific Northwest, she organized under an environmental justice framework to resist proposed coal export terminals and institutional investments in fossil fuel companies.

Pennsylvania’s House Bill 1100, sponsored by state Rep. Mike Turzai, has passed through the House and Senate with broad bipartisan support.
