The Shell Polymers Monaca Facility is a large-scale petrochemical facility located in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, along the Ohio River. The plant converts ethane derived from fracked natural gas into polyethylene plastic pellets and produces up to 1.6 million tons annually for use in consumer packaging and industrial products. It has been operational since late 2022 and is the first ethane cracker built outside the Gulf Coast in two decades.
Despite its size and impact, information about the facility’s emissions, violations, and air quality impacts is spread across multiple state and federal databases, with significant delays between when events occur and when records become publicly available. To address that gap, FracTracker Alliance developed a Petrochemical Facility Profile for Shell Polymers Monaca that aggregates local, state, and federal records into a single interactive tool.
The first published Petrochemical Facility Profile details the Shell Polymers Monaca ethane cracker plant. The Facility Profiles provide statistics, maps and graphs that can be filtered, customized, and downloaded based on the interest of the user.
